What Is Myopia?
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common vision condition where distant objects appear blurry while close objects remain clear. It happens when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light to focus in front of the retina rather than on it.
Myopia is on the rise worldwide, particularly among children. Nearly 30% of the global population is affected, with projections suggesting this could reach 50% by 2050. In the UK, around one in five children is diagnosed with myopia by age 12. Experts believe increased screen time and less time outdoors are key factors in this trend.
